Chia seeds break a fast. They contain protein, fat, fiber, and calories, so even a small spoonful provides energy that ends a fast.

Chia seeds are food: a tablespoon has around 60 calories from a mix of fat, protein, and fiber. Although they are high in fiber and have a low impact on blood sugar, the protein and calories still break a fast and stop autophagy. A glass of chia water with a spoonful of seeds is a small meal, not a fasting drink.
People assume chia is fasting-friendly because it is healthy and high in fiber, but fiber does not cancel out the protein and calories. If you want the appetite-blunting effect of fiber during a fast, plain psyllium husk in water is much lower in usable calories. Save chia for your meals.
Even a tablespoon of chia has about 60 calories; have it in your eating window, and use plain psyllium for fiber during a fast.
