Almond milk depends on the amount and type. A small splash of unsweetened almond milk has very few calories and barely affects a fast, but anything more, or any sweetened version, will break it.
| Calories | ~5-15 kcal per splash (unsweetened) |
|---|---|
| Breaks a weight-loss fast? | Partial |
| Breaks ketosis? | Partial |
| Breaks autophagy? | Yes |
| Insulin impact | Small |
Unsweetened almond milk is low in calories, roughly 30 to 40 per cup, so a small splash in coffee adds only a handful of calories. That is little enough to ignore on a general weight-loss fast. Strictly, though, any calories break a fast, so it will interrupt autophagy and a true zero-calorie fast.
The answer depends on two things: type and amount. A teaspoon-sized splash of unsweetened almond milk is close to harmless on a fat-loss fast. Sweetened almond milk, or a full pour, adds enough sugar and calories to clearly break a fast. If you fast for autophagy, leave it out entirely.
Keep it to a small splash of the unsweetened version. A full serving, or any sweetened almond milk, clearly breaks a fast.
